6 Things Your Parents Will Want to Know About Beauty School

The beauty industry is wide open. It can offer variety in education, careers, experiences, and more. It's no wonder that men and women everywhere are choosing to pursue rewarding jobs as stylists, makeup artists, nail technicians, and estheticians.

We know that the beauty industry can provide lifelong achievement and happiness, but not everyone does. If you're ready to make your move into the beauty industry, it's probably time to talk to your family about your decision. Your family is your support system, and you'll need that throughout your education. Here are 6 things your family will want to know about your education and career.

1. Which School Are You Going To?

Just like traditional college, the school you choose to learn your craft at matters. Your family will want to know about the institution you will be attending. When looking at schools, make sure to get the answers to these questions:

  • Do they provide financial aid or any other type of financial assistance?
  • Do they assist with career placement and readiness?
  • Are they a part of their local community?
  • Can students work with real guests in a student salon?
  • How much will the program cost and what is included?
  • Can you tour the facility and speak with advisors?
  • How long will it take to complete the program?

It's likely that your parents or family members will ask these questions, too, and if we're being honest, you should want to know the answers to all these questions as a student. Here at Jean Madeline Aveda Institute, we encourage potential students to come in, take a tour, and sit down with our admissions and financial aid advisors to talk about their options.

2. How Will You Pay For It?

At Jean Madeline Aveda Institute, financial aid is available to those who qualify for our Cosmetology program and our Teacher Training program. We have staffed friendly and knowledgeable individuals to help answer any questions you may have regarding paying for school.

You can also use private loans, scholarships, grants, and payment plans to help fund your education. Don't let the financial planning steer you away from an education you love. 4. Is There a Demand for Beauty Professionals?

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) from years 2014-24, barbers, hairdressers, and cosmetologists are projected to see a 10% increase in job outlook (the average rate for other careers being 7%). From years 2014-24 the BLS also projects a 12% increase in job outlook for skincare specialists.
