Jean Madeline Aveda Institute's University City students volunteered their time, energy and talents to support Night to Shine, a global event hosted by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Night to Shine provides an unforgettable prom night experience for teens and young adults with special needs. For the 2nd year in a row, Jean Madeline Aveda Institute partnered with Epic Church in Philadelphia to provide the "Prom Kings & Queens" with complimentary hair styling, haircuts, and makeup services to help them look and feel their best for such a special event.
"At Jean Madeline, giving back to the community is a value we embrace, and we think it's really important to teach the students, as well as the professional skills, that giving back is a lifelong commitment and it's very rewarding. Everyone wants to feel beautiful on prom night, and we were happy to have the guests of Epic Church spend the afternoon with us," said University Institute Director Jill Fischetti.
Jean Madeline schools are well known for providing prom styling services in the Philadelphia region, so it was a perfect fit to get involved with such an important and rewarding cause. Approximately 15 students and 6 staff members volunteered to help the 20 guests who came in for service. In addition to volunteering their time at the school, a few students also volunteered at the Night to Shine event later that evening.
Many people pursue a career in the cosmetology field because they have a passion to help people look and feel beautiful. Our students were so excited to have the opportunity to participate and give back to the community in such a unique way. Both students and staff alike were so proud to be part of Night to Shine. We loved watching our amazing guests laughing and smiling with our students that day. Many of them were giving selfie lessons and helping our guests from Epic Church practice strutting their stuff on the runway.
Night to Shine is an unforgettable event hosted by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Every year, donors and contributors put together a prom night experience for people with special needs aged 14 and older. Night to Shine takes place in hundreds of locations around the world. This year was the 6th anniversary and was held at 721 churches around the world, and honored approximately 115,000 "prom kings and queens".
This event helped to teach our students how to look at each guest as an individual and showed them that the needs of each guest are different.
