This September, our cosmetology students had the opportunity to enter a “Beauty Influencer Contest” with a Halloween theme. The winner was featured in a Facebook ad for their video to be viewed by the masses. These videos are also found on the official Jean Madeline Aveda Institute YouTube channel for the world to see. The ad featuring the winning video has already reached over 7,300 people online! Our winner, Allie, also received a lavalier microphone and a ring-light phone stand to further her dreams of being a social media influencer. Second and third place winners, Alexx and Damaris, received product gift cards that they could use in our salons to buy products for themselves, or future videos!
For some, becoming a beauty influencer is a life goal. But the road isn’t easy, and there are a lot of unknowns when it comes to planning, shooting, and editing your own video. We are very proud of all our students, and especially proud of those who showed the initiative and courage to enter this contest. Because everyone did such a great job, we wanted to shout out all of the entries we received and feature them here on our blog. Read on to see the video entries we received, and show some support for our awesome students! Here are all of the entries we received, in no particular order:
Marissa:
Marissa showed us some movie makeup prowess with her “Burnt, Fallen Angel” look. This one isn’t for the faint of heart! Great job, Marissa.
Jul: Arr!
Jul did a great job showing us what tools and products she was using during her “Glam Pirate” video. Say “Ahoy” to her video.
Konstantina:
Konstantina deserves a mention because she put in a lot of hard work and submitted an entry that was a strong contender. We don’t currently have a video to show, but we’re proud of Konstantina and hope she’ll continue to compete in future contests!
Sara:
Sara gave us a glimpse of her playful side with her carnival clown makeup. The jesters would be proud; who knew it was possible to have cute and creepy clown makeup all in one?
Amanda:
Amanda showed us her skills with this cracked porcelain doll look. Not only was the concept and execution creative, but her lighting and camera setup was pretty solid! Check out her video here.
Brianna:
Brianna combined spooky music with well-executed makeup design to create a look that’s right on theme. Check out her skull makeup look here. We love the black and white filter during the final look. Way to go, Brianna!
Rosa:
Rosa flexed her makeup skills with a creative and sparkly devil Halloween look. Like Konstantina, we do not have the video to share, but we're proud of Rosa's skills and excited to see her tap into her creative side.
Caitlin:
Green, Jean, Makeup machine! Caitlin wow-ed us with this unique (and creepy) makeup DIY for her contest entry.
Steph:
Why settle for one look when you can try them all? Steph really proved her special FX talent with the variety of looks she's serving in her entry. Which one is your favorite?
Courtney:
Courtney enlisted the help of a friend to be her canvas. Watch her creative process for this spooky theme. Great job, Courtney!
Alexx:
Alexx is a full-time cosmetology student from our University City campus. She aspires to grow her following on social media, and does so because she loves making people feel empowered and confident in who they are. Alexx said she enjoyed the challenge of making her first video, and found it fun to put herself out there. It paid off, because Alexx was our second-place winner! Watch her video below to see the devil-inspired look. After all, who does Halloween better than the devil?
Damaris:
Damaris is a full-time cosmetology student from our Neshaminy Mall location in Bensalem, PA. As a North Philly girl trying to live her beauty guru dream, she aims to grow her social media following and does so by letting her artistic creativity shine through. “I love the creative aspect of it, I can express myself through my makeup and make myself look however I want. It’s not just makeup it’s more of art that I enjoy.“ Damaris’ Queen of Hearts timelapse truly took on a life of its own. She mentioned that she liked seeing how everything came together during the time lapse. We couldn’t agree more! Damaris was our third prize winner and we can’t wait to see what she does next! View her entry here!
Allie:
Allie was our overall winner, and we have to warn you, this makeup is very creepy but very well done! Her combination of spooky music, quality execution, and the shots of the final product made her entry stand out. Her dedication to this look was impressive, you should definitely read her interview on the winners announcement blog.

We’re glad that our students took the initiative to try something new, go outside of their comfort zones, and create something amazing! All of these entries showed the unique perspectives that our creative students have, and how there are so many different ways to represent one theme. We can’t wait to see what our students put together next time!
