Ashley is the proud owner of the AMG Beauty Bar in Eagleville, PA. AMG Beauty Bar specializes in Brows, Makeup & Waxing, and their tagline is "Mindful Beauty". The salon itself is bright, airy, and impeccably designed. Upscale, ultra-chic, and modern with just the right amount of bling. Absolutely gorgeous! We recently spoke with Ashley about her journey after graduation, becoming a business owner, the power of dreaming big, and the importance of getting a great education.

What year did you graduate from Jean Madeline Aveda Institute & which campus did you attend?
I graduated from Jean Madeline in 2007 and went to the Queen Village Campus near South Street. 

Did you know from a young age that cosmetology was something you were interested in doing? If not, how did you wind up on this career path?
I knew as I was coming out of high school, I wanted to be in the beauty world. I always had such a love for hair and makeup. Almost every woman in my family is in the beauty industry as well! It felt like my true calling.

What made you decide to choose the Jean Madeline Aveda Institute for your cosmetology school education?
I felt that Jean Madeline was such an amazing company to learn from. I just had a feeling that everything done there was done 100% especially with teaching their students. I previously had other friends that went to JMAI  before me and they had nothing but awesome things to say about the school and teachers! I love recommending Jean Madeline to younger women and men that are looking to learn and be a part of this industry.

Congratulations on the success of opening your very own salon, AMG Beauty Bar. What is the best thing about being a business owner? 
The best thing about being a business owner is that I get to create an atmosphere that is tailored to what I want for my clients. Every day, I get to make my clients feel and look beautiful, along with creating awesome relationships. I also get to make my own rules and schedule for my business. I love the flexibility!

What is one thing you wish you would have known before going into business for yourself?
One thing I wish I would've known before going into business is managing it all properly. I will be the first to admit, I am very much an artist and not so much into the business side of things. But over the last 3 years. this has been such an amazing growing process. It has helped me become a better business owner, mentor/boss. You have to appreciate each experience. You will always learn something new.

Any extra advice you might want to share with someone currently enrolled in; or considering starting their career in beauty with Jean Madeline Aveda Institute?
When you pursue this career, make sure to show up every day with your whole heart. Remember that your job is to make others feel good about themselves. This job is certainly not easy, but if it is your passion, you won't feel like you are working a day in your life.

Also, stay focused on one thing that you have the most passion for. Once you master one skill, you can slowly master others in order to complement each other and expand your skillset. Bonus: Treating your clients like their family is key. That is what will separate you from everyone else. Genuine relationships are irreplaceable. :)
