When our students invest their time, energy, and money into a beauty education, we feel a duty to provide the best educational experience that we possibly can. At Jean Madeline Aveda Institute, every decision we make is made with the hope that it will improve the chances that our students will become beauty industry all stars and that they will be able to find their dream job.
Building a beauty school that can do this for students is not easy. Here are some of the ingredients that are necessary to make it happen:
We have three Jean Madeline Aveda Institute campuses where students can get a beauty education in cosmetology, esthetics, nail technology, or even become a teacher. Each campus location was an important decision made in order to help make a beauty education more accessible to the right people. Some important factors that we considered when choosing campus locations were:
Once a prime location is selected, the next step is to build the school. This is perhaps the longest part of the process. There are lots of people involved in this process in order to get everything done. From the plumbing to the lighting to the salon chairs, everything has to be just right. We want our students to be excited to come to school and to feel inspired while they are here. Creating the right atmosphere and ambiance is an important part of that inspiration.
In order to get these things right, we seek input from our team. We ask our educators about what feedback they have and what they hear from students. We seek their feedback on the big things like how big should classrooms be? Or what kind of flooring works best in the salon? We also seek their advice on the little things like the color of chairs should be put in the waiting room. No matter how large or small the decision is, it’s a team effort. We want our schools to fit what our students need rather than making our students fit into a mold.
We take the feedback we get and create a vision for the best beauty school we can imagine. That vision becomes blueprints which eventually become a reality.
Another important aspect of building or expanding your beauty school is finding the right staff members to run it. Educators, front desk personnel, admissions representatives, financial aid representatives, and many more people are all part of the team that makes a beauty school great. It’s important to find the right people for the job. At Jean Madeline, it’s important to us to find people who are passionate about learning! We also want people who are happy and add positivity to our environment.
Creating a culture that encourages students to grow is another key ingredient of building a great beauty school. Students should feel comfortable to explore and try new things. They should know where to go when they have question or a problem that they need help with. Creating a culture that is positive and uplifting is one of our number one priorities and it’s something that we are constantly working on.
There’s a lot that goes into building a beauty school where students can succeed and love to learn. It takes a lot of teamwork, time, and attention to detail. When we see our students pursue their dreams and build careers that they love, it makes it all worth it!
