Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Jean Madeline Aveda Institute

Breast Cancer Awareness Month has roots that extend all the way back to the early 1980s. The American Cancer Society partnered up with a few big names in the pharmaceutical industry and formed National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During this time, you could find breast cancer awareness initiatives in most places if you were looking for them.

Fast forward to today…

You will start seeing pink, the official color of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in so many places you won't be able to miss it! College sports teams, professional sports teams, and even the White House will be sporting pink during the month of October. There will be 5k’s, marathons, walks, silent auctions, and all kinds of fundraisers near you to help raise funds for breast cancer research. Breast Cancer Awareness Month has come a long way since the 80s. It’s now simple and accessible for everyone to get involved and help end breast cancer by pushing research forward.

Why is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so Huge?

Breast cancer is a disease that hits close to home for many people. In the U.S. a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes. This means that you probably have a close friend or family member who has had first hand experience with it. October is the time of year when people band together to raise awareness and funds to help with research.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month With Jean Madeline

Breast Cancer Awareness month is a big deal at Jean Madeline as well. Each campus is given freedom to decide how to raise awareness and funds. It’s inspiring to see both the student body and staff of each campus get involved wholeheartedly. They recognize the importance doing what they can to help fight back against breast cancer.

You can see what activities and fundraisers our team came up with here and get involved with us!

How Students Benefit from Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Raising funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is not the only thing that is important to us. The education and growth of our students is at the center of everything we do.

As mentioned before, our students are the driving force behind many of the things we do in the month of October. Letting them organize and execute these initiatives helps them get excited about what they are doing and the difference they make. Our hope is that in the future these students will continue to have a passion for contributing to their communities and to society in meaningful ways. It also gives them great experience in logistics, business, and event planning that can help them in their careers.

Where Does All That Money Go?

You may have wondered “where does all the money go?” That’s a great question. At Jean Madeline, we donate the profits that we raise to the American Cancer Society. Jean Madeline has donated over $120,000 to the American Cancer Society over the last 7 years and hopes to make another generous contribution this year!

If beauty services are part of your normal routine, come visit a Jean Madeline Student Salon. Services are performed by students under the supervision of a licensed professional. This means you can get your beauty service, contribute to a student's education, and donate to breast cancer research. It’s another great way that you can be a part of the cause this October. We can’t wait to see you!
